My 9 year old sister just read “The Stone of Destiny”, and got a little confused between fact and fiction. Which, I guess is good in a way, it means the things I made up were believable, but then, I still want people to know what’s fact, and what’s fiction, folk tale, and conspiracy theory.
Fact: The Stone of Destiny is real, and it is normally located in Edinburgh Castle and all Scottish kings were crowned on it (and lately English monarchs.)
Fiction: The Stone of Destiny was the rock that Jacob from the Bible used as a pillow when he saw the stairway to heaven and angels going up and down, and that it was brought to Scotland by an Egyptian princess. As doubtful as it sounds, this legend survived a while until they proved that the Stone of Destiny was made of the wrong kind of rock to be from Egypt.
Fact: Everyone says that Bonnie Prince Charlie died an alcoholic in Rome.
Fiction: Doesn’t it just make a better story saying he didn’t and it was all made up by the English government?
Fact: Scotland had a vote to decide whether they would remain part of Great Britain. They voted against, but it was very close—55% to 45%.
Fiction: The English rigged it in order for them to stay in the UK and hopefully silence the Jacobites forever. (But isn’t it just like them?)
Fact: Bonnie Prince Charlie had kids.
Conspiracy theory: he actually married the lady that he had Charlotte with and just said she was illegitimate so that they wouldn’t be all out to kill her. And Charlotte’s kids were legitimate too.
